My approach

Therapeutic interventions

Due to my doctoral level training and clinical experience I am able to provide a range of different psychological therapies. A pluralistic approach enables me to consider tailored interventions based on your particular needs and preferences, as well as the current evidence-base and research. Different approaches can be more suitable to different challenges.

The models I use most often are:

  • Cognitive-Behavioural Therapy (CBT)

  • Person-Centred Therapy

  • Psychodynamic Therapy

  • Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT)

  • Compassion Focused Therapy (CFT)

  • Systemic work

  • Narrative Therapy

My approach

Collaborative work

The therapeutic relationship, sometimes called the therapeutic alliance or working alliance, is the relationship between the therapist and client. Research suggests that there is an association between positive therapeutic relationship and good outcomes for the client. Many therapeutic models are underpinned by a common thread: the strength of the therapeutic relationship.

Many mental health challenges and the distress people are experiencing can be rooted in relationship or social struggles, and/or societal consequences. A strong therapeutic relationship can provide clients with a sensitive and a responsive secure base to explore their struggles and hurt.

My stance is trauma-informed which means that the relationship between me and the client can become the vehicle for healing. The collaborative relationship is based on empowerment, cultural safety and healing.

Your own strengths, resilience and resources, what has happened to you, as well as your self-determination and personal life values, are of particular significance in my therapeutic approach.

Therapy length

I offer flexibility — based on your needs:

  • Short-term therapy: works usually best when there is a collaboratively agreed goal. Some people find that a short-term approach, i.e., 6-18 sessions cover their needs.

  • Long-term therapy or open ended therapy: works for those who find it helpful to have ongoing support over a number of months.

In both approaches I usually suggest working in blocks of 6 sessions. We will review the need for further sessions regularly and collaboratively.

Ideally the therapy always has a clear start and an end.

How to get started

We start with an initial free 15-20 min. consultation. If we decide to go ahead, our first one or two sessions will focus on developing a shared understanding of the things or areas in life that you are struggling with and your therapy goals. Based on our shared understanding, we will then discuss about the sort of approach, and number of sessions we can start with.
